Last year I had a little dream come true when I got to spend a couple of days visiting and exploring the incredibly beautiful and picturesque island of Santorini.
Famed for its unique architecture, distinct blue and white domed churches, crooked passageways and marble walkways, Santorini is, I believe a must see for everyone. If you’ve ever “oohed” and “aahed” when looking at all those beautiful pictures of the island then I can tell you now that photos just don’t do the place justice. It’s even more breathtakingly beautiful in person!
One of the biggest highlights of our trip was doing the Fira to Oia hike and I recommend it to everyone who decides to visit the island. It takes you along the caldera cliff and through the villages of Fira, Firostefani, Imerovigli, and Oia where you will be in awe of all the magical views along the way as well as the clear blue sky, water and the cliffs.
Santorini did have a very sad side to it especially for an animal lover like myself as there were plenty of homeless dogs and cats about. Therefore we made sure to always have a bit of food with us to share with anyone in need. It was also very distressing to see all the poor straddled donkeys whom are forced to carry tourists up and down steep flights of stairs. Hence for the sensitive souls out there, if you’re ever visiting then keep in mind that these are things that will be hard to see.
